Emotional funeral service as Ruto & Gideon share goodwill handshake

Thousands of mourners flocked at Kabarak University grounds to give a befitting send-off to Jonathan Toroitich Moi at an emotional funeral service at Kabarak University, Rongai in Nakuru County

Two light aircrafts – one carrying the body and another with the family took off for Kabarak airstrip.At Kabarak airstrip, they were received by Jonathan’s sons and then made a 10-minute journey to Kabarak University graduation square.

The mass service has attracted over 10, 000 mourners.A number of political leaders including William Ruto, James Orengo, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula are among the dignitaries attending the funeral.

Deputy President William Ruto and his political rival Baringo Senator Gideon Moi shared a platform at Jonathan Toroitich Moi’s funeral service at Kabarak University in Nakuru county.

Ruto who arrived at 11 am shook hands with Gideon before taking his seat in a rare show of goodwill.

The two leaders’ speeches and body language were closely watched by many as DP Ruto and Senator Moi — who have both declared interest in running for the Presidency in 2022.

The handshake portrayed a truce between the two fierce political rivals who seek control of the populous Rift Valley region.

Rift Valley Council of Elders offered to mediate between DP Ruto and Senator Moi, warning that political differences between the two could cost the community the Presidency in 2022.
