“I know Raila very well. I served with him during the coalition Government and I know how mischievous he is. Uhuru should never close his eyes and go to bed while engaging him. His legacy could be destroyed by Raila” Kibaki said.
He said that although the handshake is believed to have brought peace and stability in the country, the sidelining of Deputy President William Ruto who did a lot for the current Government would bring trouble in the future.
“The handshake is good for the country but continued sidelinement of the Deputy President would spell doom for the country. The Deputy President holds a crucial office in the country which cannot be ignored”
The former president worked with the former prime minister Raila Odinga after the 2007 disputed elections which led to the creation of Prime Minister’s office. Although the two were expected to consult often on issues affecting the country, the former President usually chose to ride the country without involving Raila always
This led to several disagreements between Kibaki and Raila. One of the biggest traps set by Kibaki, (Mau Evictions) completely led to the downfall of Raila in his former Rift Valley stronghold. Kibaki used Raila to carry out an eviction that later came back to haunt him as this was seen by many in the Rift Valley as Raila’s attack on the community despite their huge support in 2007.
To make the things worse, Raila decided to remove the then Agricultural minister William Ruto from the docked pending corruption scandal that had hit the ministry. The decision was later reversed by President Kibaki sending Raila to a complete political dust pin in the Rift Valley.
