PHOTOS: Voters up and early to vote in Wajir by-elections

Wajir West Constituents on Thursday woke up early in the morning to vote in the long awaited by-elections.

Jubilee’s candidate Ahmed Kolosh Mohamed and Kanu’s Ibrahim Mohamud will battle out for the seat that fell vacant after the Supreme Court nullified Kolosh’s victory in the 2017 polls.

On Wednesday, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati assured residents of a free, fair and credible by-election.

He addressed election observers and media ahead of the polls that are currently underway.

The contest pits Kanu’s Ibrahim Mohammed against Jubilee’s Ahmed Kolosh, in what has been interpreted in some quarters as a battle between Rift Valley political bigwigs Deputy President William Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.

Mr Kolosh, who had run on an ODM ticket, decamped to Jubilee and was welcomed by the DP.

Mr Ali Noor Abdi of Labour Party of Kenya and Agano Party’s Abass Nunow Shihaw also quit the race after meeting Dr Ruto in Nairobi.

But although the three candidates pulled out, their names are still on ballot papers.
