Arsenal’s away form derailing their quest for Champions League football

After losing Crystal Palace at home, one would have thought that Arsenal’s Premier League season would not have gotten any worse but that thought was wrong! The Gunners put up what is possibly their worst performance of the season to lose 3-0 to Wolves.

Despite having a relatively easy fixture list that involved playing teams below the top six positions on the table, Unai Emery’s men do not have their top 4 destiny in their own hands. There is still a chance that Arsenal might qualify should Chelsea fail to beat Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday but that is a clutching at straws.

Should Manchester United do them a favor and beat Chelsea, Arsenal still has to beat Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City away from home, a huge ask considering their away record. The Gunners have only won 6 league away games all season. Compound this with the fact that one of their most influential players Aaron Ramsey is out injured with a strained hamstring, the future does not look good for them.

Arsenal can still qualify for the Champions League next season but they will be up against Valencia side who play some of the most exciting football in the Spanish top flight. They are more than capable of dealing with the English side over 2 legs. In the end Arsenal have only themselves to blame should they miss out on Champions League football next season, the away form will be seen as a key factor but oddly enough, there is a chance to make amends this late in the season.
