A man in Nakuru’s Malewa area was on Saturday arrested and on Tuesday found by family dead while in police custody, causing fury at the police in charge.

34-year-old David Wachira was arrested under allegations that he had stolen seven sheep.

According to his father Kamau Nganga, the deceased was still tied with a rope and appeared unconscious when they arrived at Malewa Police Station, where he had been in custody, on Tuesday to check on him.

Moments later, Nganga said, a vehicle from Malewa Police Station arrived and took his son away. Later, they were informed he was dead.

“I demanded to know what had happened to my son, but the officers said nothing,” Nganga said.

“No one had given us an explanation on what transpired. We are calling for investigations. We want justice for our son,” he added.

Police are still mum on the case, saying that they are waiting for their superior to return to work before they can respond.
