Raila Odinga Departs For China Amid Public Uproar

Opposition Chief Raila Odinga has this evening departed the Country for China where he is set to attend the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation where he shall make the case for synergies in infrastructure planning and development by embracing international standards.

Raila’s trip comes just days after he said that he will accompany President Kenyatta to China to source for a 368 billion shillings loan for the extension of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) from Naivasha to Kisumu.

“I will be part of the delegation that will accompany the President to the Asian country next week. The new SGR line will extend from Naivasha to Narok, Bomet, Sondu and finally Kisumu,” Mr Odinga told a crowd during a stopover rally at Sondu market in Kisumu on Saturday.

Raila’s revelation led to widespread criticism among Kenyans who called him out for joining hands with President Kenyatta to frustrate Kenyans with even more loans.

Many Kenyans reminded him how he was so against the loans in the first place only for him to later change tone after his now famous handshake with President Kenyatta.

It remains to be seen the fruits Raila’s trip will yield even as Residents of Kisumu remain upbeat about the SGR railway reaching the Lakeside Town.
