Politics is all about the art of words. It is the mastery of the public’s thinking and swinging into a manipulation act. Our leaders are so good at this but sometimes they find themselves in misquoted calamities after their words irk the wrong people.
Embattled Deputy President William Ruto has since made an about-turn after accusations emerged over how he wrongfully profiled the Luo community in a video that went viral and is his latest haunt.
In a statement, the DP said that the remarks made in the video have been blown out of context by those trying to rally support “through desperate and alarmist misinformation.”
Ruto also asked the media to soberly interpret issues and events unlike his detractors peddling lies through social media.
“We expect more sober and responsible interpretation and analysis of events and issues. The propagators of the anti-Ruto spin are blinded with desperation to the point that they cannot realize that they are the ones profiling a whole community,” Ruto said.
In the video which is apparently at least two months old, the self proclaimed hustler said: ““Kwani hawa watu wana tuambia saa hii stori mingi hatuwajui, si tunawajua?. Ni watu ya kubomoa, kama hawa bomoi chama, wana bomoa nyumba, kama hawa bomoi nyumba wana ngoa reli, kama hawa ngoi reli, wana tenganisha marafiki….. sasa hii watu ambao tuna waelewa we are entertaining them for what purpose.”
