How Menengai has turned to be haven of rapists and crater of death

A normal hike at the famous Menengai crater, Nakuru turned tragic for two teenage girls who were raped in turns by people they knew too well.

According to local reports, four young men had accompanied the two girls but turned on them and forced them to have sex.

Kenya Red Cross alongside members of the public conducted a search and reportedly busted the boys in the act.

The two girls aged 15 and 16 are students from Uhuru High School and Moi Forces Academy respectively.

“We parted ways from the rest of the group when the two accosted us. We called for help but we were too far to be hard by the rest. The suspects freed us after defiling me and my friend,” said one of the minors.

They are admitted to the Nakuru Level Five Hospital.

Kiamaina Ward representative Isaac Wahome said that the girls who were in shock gave them a physical description of the suspects after which they combed the forest in search for the suspects.

“It was by luck that the Kenya Red Cross members were in the area and they assisted in handling the victims. They were rushed to the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital for medical attention,” said Wahome.

Police arrested three out of the 4 suspects and are still hunting for the other one who fled the scene.

According to police reports, the three suspects spent the night at Maili Kumi Police Station in Bahati Sub County and are now awaiting arraignment in court.

The three are expected to be charged for assault and report once the medical report confirms the incident.

“The suspects didn’t have any identification documents on them. We have established that they are both 17 years old. They claim to be working as loaders at a quarry in Maili Sita area,” Bahati Sub County Police boss Jacinta Mwarania said.

This is just another recent case of insecurity in the famous crater.

On Monday (yesterday), Police and the Nakuru Fire brigade pulled out the decomposing body of an unidentified man, out of the Menengai Crater.

Also, two people are feared dead after they slipped and fell into the crater Saturday.
