Family sues MP for abandoning child and wife for months

Lamu West MP Julius Ndegwa was arraigned in court for failing to cater to his family for months.

He is being charged with failing to pay rent arrears for a house in Nyali, where his wife and daughter have been living.

The rent reportedly accrues to Sh140,000, which has accumulated for five months.

The orders were issued after Rehema Susan Maalim, who claims to be Mr Ndegwa’s wife, told the court that the former lawmaker had abandoned her for five months.

The Tononoka Children’s Court however ordered Mr Ndegwa to settle the debt to avoid the eviction of the woman from the house.

“Pending the hearing and determination of this application, the respondent is hereby compelled to clear the rent arrears as required by the landlord of the premise where the applicant and her child reside,” Senior Resident Magistrate Lucy Sindani said.

The case is set to be heard on May 20.
