Burnley Accused Of Xenophobic Abuse Aimed At Maurizio Sarri

Chelsea dropped two huge points and lost a chance to secure a top-four finish on Monday at Stamford Bridge against Burnley.

The Blues went into the game knowing that Tottenham, Arsenal and Man United all lost over the weekend.

But in a major blow for the Pensioners, they could only draw 2-2 with the Clarets.

Ashley Barnes scored in the 24th minute to level the match 2-2. Jeff Hendrick had fired Burnley into an eighth minute lead in west London, before Chelsea scored twice in two minutes.

N’Golo Kante levelled for the Blues, before Gonzalo Higuain fired the hosts ahead.

The result left Chelsea in fourth spot, however they’ve played a game more than their rivals.

Maurizio Sarri refused to hold post match presser
After the match, Maurizio Sarri didn’t show up for a post-game press conference.

That’s after the Italian was sent to the stands in the closing stages of the game.

Sarri is now likely to be hit with a touchline ban by the FA.

With all that swirling, Sarri sent Gianfranco Zola to talk the media after the Burnley game.

Chelsea accuse Burnley of xenophobic abuse
Zola accused Burnley’s staff of hurling xenophobic abuse at Sarri. He said:

He’s been told something from their bench.

We’ll see what we can do. I think there will be follow-up on that. Maurizio felt very unhappy.

I know you wanted him, so I’m sorry. But you can understand: he’s frustrated at the game, frustrated at being sent off, and the other thing. He’d prefer not to come in.

I think he’s been told something from their bench, but don’t ask me what; I don’t want to go down that line. We’ll see what we can do about that.

According to subsequent reports on social media, Sarri believes he was called an “Italian shit” by members of Burnley’s bench.
