Machakos Governor Makes Official Visit to Shalom Hospital

Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has requested the Kenya medical board and county health officers to investigate Shalom hospital Athi River. This is after a video emerged of a woman giving birth on the floor with no assistance as those with the responsibility took tea.

Dr Alfred Mutua together with officials from the Kenya Medical  Board and Nursing Board are expected to visit Shalom Hospital in Athi River days after a video of a woman giving birth at the hospital’s reception areas as nurses took tea went viral.

On Monday Mutua tweeted sent out a statement saying they would inspect the facility and that he would take action against the staff.

Officials from my Government and the Kenya Medical Board & Nursing board will this morning visit the privately owned & managed Shalom Hospital in Athi River. We will not allow patients in any facility – Govt or otherwise – in my region, to be treated inhumanely. Watajua Hawajui.

On Sunday Mutua dismissed claims that Shalom Community Hospital in Athi River is managed by the County Government. Mutua said the private hospital is licensed by the Kenya Medical Board.
