Netizens have blasted Twitter after it seemed to prioritize Queen Elizabeth’s 93rd Birthday over the deaths of hundreds of Sinhalese following multiple bomb attacks in hotels and churches.

In Twitter’s trend analyzer, the giant social media site showed that Queen Elizabeth was the top trend while Sri Lanka was actually what everyone else was discussing.

At the time of taking the screenshot, Sri Lanka had gathered over 300,000 tweets while the Queen had just about 4000 people tweeting about it.

This happened in the wake of Sri Lanka government’s decision to shut down social media in the country.

The move which is largely seen in order to cut down on the spread of fear was received with mixed reactions.

About 200 people have been killed in the multiple bomb blasts, and left scores more injured.

Both the Prime Minister and the President have called on the citizens to exercise restraint and calm even as the security operatives piece up information that would lead to the capture of the terrorists.

A section of witnesses, however, say the attackers were mostly suicide bombers.
