Manchester United’s top 4 hopes were dealt a huge blow when Marco Silva’s Everton gave them a comfortable 4-0 beating at Goodison Park on Sunday. Ole Gunnar’s side, fresh from being on the wrong side of a Lionel Messi masterclass in midweek never got going and were duly punished by a hungry Everton.

The Red Devils went behind with just 13 minutes on the clock when Brazil forward Richarlison found the net with a spectacular volley that left David De Gea rooted to the spot. Gylfi Sigurdsson added a second 15minutes later with a stunning strike but questions will be asked of De Gea’s as he was easily beaten. Half time found Everton leading by two goals to nothing.

Manchester United came into the second half looked as grim as they did in the first and Everton added a third just 10 minutes after the restart from Lucas Digne. Former Arsenal winger Theo Walcott put the game beyond Manchester Unite’s reach with a 4th shortly after coming off the bench.

The loss is Manchester United’s second in the space of 5 days and has now left them with an almost impossible task of qualifying for next season’s Champions League. Their next two opponents in the league are Manchester City and Chelsea with both matches being played at Old Trafford.
