Classic Movies Everyone Must Watch

If you do not have something to do or anywhere to go this Easter, consider watching some classic movies. whether or not you area movies person, they are quite something.

There are quite a number out there but let me give some to start you off. They will live you with more than just fond memories.

Some Like It Hot (1959)

Starring Hollywood’s most celebrated actress, Marilyn Monroe, this movie set her out to be one of the most iconic people of all time. In case you thought Marilyn Monroe was only famous for her affair with the then president of The United States Of America, you’re in for a pleasant surprise. The movie is about two musicians who witness a crime and are now on the run from the mob. They cross dress inwomen’s clothes and join a girl band. It was also on this movie that the Hollywood bombshell sang her timeless song, I Wanna Be Loved By You.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)

Audrey Hepburn, another Hollywood royalty, transformed into the fashion icon we know today thanks to this movie. Hepburn’s character is a New York wanna-be socialite who goes through the ups and downs of her lifestyle choice. She plays a young, beautiful girl, who’s sort after by wealthy men and looking to marry into money. She, however, grows close with her neighbour a struggling writer and the story is told from his point of view. It sort of feels like Sex And The City-ish if Sex And The City was shot in the 60’s.

The Sound Of Music (1965)

This was a landmark movie for musicals since it had a beautiful storyline as well as unforgettable songs. Maria takes up a job as a nanny to 7 children belonging to a handsome widower. She teaches them to sing and falls in love with their father. The movie has interesting twists which you’ll find in modern day films.

The Godfather (1972)

The Godfather is a mob movie based in New York and New Jersey. As any mob movie, it involves a lot of violence and strong language but it was Pacino’s impression saying, “You come to me on this day of my daughter’s wedding” that made it a memorable movie. Robert DeNiro’s and Al Pacino’s performance in this movie won the movie several awards and deserve a lifetime applause. These were the true godfathers of classic movies.

Jaws (1975)

Jaws is a classic horror movie about most people’s nightmares, sharks. Three men set out into the sea to kill these bloodthirsty monsters that have been terrorizing swimmers and fishermen in the area. The movie is filled with jaw clenching scenes that leave you squeamish which, surprisingly, has a PG-rating.

Rocky (1976)

This movie set the pace for athletic movies. It’s based on a small time wrestler who made a name for himself in the big leagues. Sylvester Stallone delivers the role passionately which makes him dubbed the hottest new act. Additionally, the movie captures the thirst and yearning of many struggling athletes in America.

Pulp Fiction (1994)

This is a crime thriller starring Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis and John Travolta. It was written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. Two hit men are on a mission to retrieve a briefcase for their boss and end up doing the most outrageous things that almost cost them their lives.

Lion King (1994)

Believe it or not, there are people who haven’t watched the Lion King and I don’t know what they’re doing with their lives. This iconic movie became famous for many different reasons but the one everyone knows is the phrases “Hakuna Matata”. It’s an animated film based in the Serengeti that portrays the life of Mufasa’s pride. To add on, its sequel did just as well which isn’t very common.

Friday(1995)

This movie features two friends and their life in the hood in a humorous way. One of them is struggling to find a job when he gets marijuana from a dealer to sell. He ends up smoking all of it and has to come up with the money soon. The cast is made up of some of the greatest black comedy actors of all time like Ice Cube, Chris Tucker and John Witherspoon which made it an automatic hit and must-watch on your movie list.

Titanic (1997)

The Titanic is based on real events that happened in 1912 involving a luxury passenger liner that hit an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean. Played by a young Leonardo Di Caprio, Jack fell in love with Rose who has a brief romance before the tragedy occurred. This movie propelled Di Caprio to stardom with his stellar performance alongside Kate Winslet. I challenge you to watch this movie and try to get through it without crying.
