‘Iiiiiii I will check mine with a microscope today!”
This was the reaction of former Roads minister Franklin Bett to reports that most men’s beards are teeming with germs.
Recently released results of a scientific research study by Switzerland’s Hirslanded Clinic revealed that men with beards carry more germs than dogs. The research revealed that most beards are infested with pathogens that are dangerous to human health.
In the study, the team sampled the beards of 18 men, as well as the necks of 30 dogs. The analysis revealed that nearly half (7) of the beards sampled contained germs known to be dangerous to human health. Meanwhile, all 18 men had high microbial counts in their beards, while just 23 of the dogs did so.
Mr Bett dons a grey beard which is always shaved beautifully. The beard, together with his ever present glasses and a half smile that displays his white teeth, give Mr Bett a readily recognizable appearance.
Hopefully Bett will share the results with the public after he puts his beard under the microscope.
