Well, no one saw this coming. Ugandan despot Yoweri Museveni is ready to offer former Sudan dictator, Omar Al Bashir asylum.

Museveni and Al Bashir are bosom buddies who have been together for a long time even as they are accused of committing almost similar crimes including but not limited to clinging on power.

Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Henry Oryem told journalists on Tuesday that the government would consider accommodating Al Bashir if he asks for help.

“If Omar al-Bashir applies for asylum in Uganda that is a matter that can be considered by the President of Uganda.”

Al Bashir, a warlord who had been in power since 1989 was ousted by the military last week after more than four months of demonstrations in several parts of the world.

After his tenure was brought to an unceremonious end, firebrand Ugandan politician, Bobi Wine asked Museveni to also prepare to leave.

Bobi Wine has not yet commented on the latest development but political analysts expect him to vehemently oppose the government.

Bashir and Museveni have been long time allies and the former in 2017 visited Uganda where Museveni drove him around his farm in Kisozi before addressing a Business Forum at State House, Entebbe.

Bashir returned to Uganda last year to broker the peace talk agreement between the two South Sudan leaders. He was also in Uganda in 2016 during the swearing-in ceremony of Museveni.

The embattled dictator is wanted by the ICC for perpetrating the Darfur massacre.
