Manchester United have suffered a terrible defeat at Camp Nou after they were thrashed 3-0 by Barcelona in their Champions League quarter-final second leg.
The Catalans went to the match with one foot into the semi-final after beating United 1-0 at Old Trafford last week Wednesday.
Messi did not shine in the match at Old Trafford after succumbing to an injury during an ariel ball clash with United defender Chris Smalling.
There were many speculations about the clash with some believing that Smalling did it intentionally to silence the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
However, Smalling clarified that there was no bad blood between him and Messi and that they even shook hands afterward.
But Messi deliberately ignored Smalling at the Camp Nou stadium after the clash, meaning that the Argentinian did not take last week’s incident lightly.
Messi seemed not to want anything to do with the defender prompting him to tap Smalling’s elbow and leave.
United are now bundled out of the competition and their main focus now shifts to making it to the top four position in the Premier League to qualify for the next season’s Champions League.
