Sony Sugar company has been on a rough path in the recent past. The Sugar Milling company is currently struggling to maintain its operations with many constraints hitting hard its management.

But how is Migori Governor Okoth Obado ready to salvage Sony Sugar from its tribulations?

The controversial governor wants to be given the management rights of the Sony Sugar Company. Governor Okoth Obado is pushing for the change of ownership to be under Migori County.

Governor Obado reaffirmed his hard stance against privatization of the Sony Sugar Company, saying he will write a letter to Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri to allow Migori County Government to own the troubled sugar company.

Obado, who was meeting cane farmers at Sony Sugar Company, said privatizing the company would lead to over 2,000 people employed by the company losing their jobs.

He urged the company workers, farmers and other leaders in Migori County to protect the company from privatization, which he said would only worsen the situation.

Obado said the county government is ready to take control of the company if the national government is tired of running it.

Sony Sugar has been grappling with strike issues. The recent issue is the management problem union is demanding suspension of the company MD Bernard Otieno and the company Finance Manager Peter Otieno.

Payment of salaries is also a huge problem threatening the existence of Sony Sugar.
