Why IG Hillary Mutyambai Must Rescue Abducted Cuban Doctors

In his first important tweet to the public, New Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has told the public that Kenyan Security forces and their Somali counterparts are working together to pursue the abductors of the Cuban Doctors.

The two doctors were abducted in Mandera on Friday morning at around 9Am.

According to the police, suspected Al Shabab terrorists ambushed the doctors on their way to hospital, killed their security and sneaked to Somalia.

This is the worst possible way for Mutyambai, who until recently did not have a picture on the Internet, to begin his reign as the police boss.

Mutyambai, a man from the intelligence field, was sworn in on Monday this week.

With several people, questioning his appointment, the police boss now has to prove to his doubters that he is equal to the task.

Mutyambai’s predecessor, Joseph Boinett was unable to find Italian aid worker Silvia Romano.

Silvia was abducted in Kilifi County on 21 November 2018 and there are still no reports on her whereabouts more than six months later.

Already the US government issued a travel advisory to its citizens three days ago, warning them about travelling to Kenya meaning the government must find the doctors to save its tourism sector.

The abduction of the Cuban doctors will look to heighten tension between the two countries. Last month, a Kenyan doctor died in Cuba under mysterious circumstances.
