The maize scandal in Kenya is what resulted in maize going bad in stores and maize farmers experiencing lots of losses.

If such scandals could have been avoided, Kenya would not have been having shortages of maize.

The rise of the price of maize floor in the country due to a shortage in maize is only going to cause a lot of pain to consumers since maize is the known staple food of Kenya.

This time the government should not wait until there is so much lamenting in the country so as to act on the issue. It should be considered as a national crisis and action taken earlier on.

The government should not allow the situation to worsen like how it did two years ago since all most Kenyans were affected. Education should be provided to farmers about the type of maize suitable to be planted in this season and subsidies given on fertilisers.

Importation of maize will only act as a short-term solution and right now what we need is a solution that will last. The government has to strengthen their trust with maize farmers across the country and avoid the maize scandals that were experienced in the past.

We should strive to minimize losses and maize wastage that result from maize being overkept in stores. Paying maize farmers on time should also be considered as a way of resolving the problem of maize shortage in the country since it will strengthen the trust between farmers and the government.

This will also encourage people to engage themselves in maize farming and as a result, no maize shortage will be experienced.
