New IG Mutyambai updates on Cuban doctors kidnap

New Police Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai has spoken over the kidnap of two Cuban doctors earlier in Mandera.

He has stated that our security agencies are working with Somalia Government Security agencies in the following of the crime rescue mission.

Police Spokesman Charles Owino on Friday stated that one suspect had been taken in for questioning following the abduction of two Cuban doctors in Mandera County.

Mr Owino conveyed that the driver of the vehicle the doctors were traveling in was in custody to give a statement on the incident.

“So far, the county government vehicle which belongs to the hospital has been recovered and the driver is being held with us for purposes of interrogation,” Mr. Owino stated.

“The two doctors were under police escort from their residences to Mandera Hospital in a county hospital vehicle. One of the officers was from the Administration Police Unite while the other was an officer of the Kenya Police Service.

“Along the way, they were blocked by two Probox cars and unfortunately the AP officer was shot and fatally wounded.

“The criminals commandeered the car and the occupants across the border into Somalia,” the spokesperson narrated.
