Porto Keeper Decries Two Referee Decisions On Match Against Liverpool

Liverpool emerged victorious in their game against Porto in their first leg Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Reds got off to the perfect start when Naby Keita’s deflected effort after six minute found the net.

Roberto Firmino scored 20 minutes later to double Liverpool’s advantage.

There were no further goals on the night, meaning Liverpool will head to the second leg next week as the overwhelming favourites to progress to the last four.

The result could have been very different, though.

There were a few controversial decisions on the night than didn’t work in Porto’s favour.

With half-an-hour played, the ball struck Trent Alexander-Arnold on the arm inside the box.

Towards the end of the game, Liverpool could well have been reduced to 10 men after Mohamed Salah’s clumsy challenge.

Salah overran the ball and his studs made contact with Danilo’s shin.

Salah is a lucky boy there.

One man that has hinted his disapproval with both decisions is Iker Casillas.

The Porto goalkeeper posted images of both incidents on Twitter after the game.

Although he made no reference to the decisions, he’s obviously not too happy that the decisions went against his side.

Jurgen Klopp would have been relieved that the decisions worked in Liverpool’s favour and he said after the game that his team deserved the win.

“It was a good game, a good game, a controlled game in a lot of moments,” he said.

“We deserved the win, 100 per cent, we scored two wonderful goals and we were – in a lot of situations – really dangerous, on the right side especially with Mo, Hendo and Trent, the crosses and the passes. Overall, a really good performance.

“The game is still on. We have to go there, we have to fight. Porto will try everything to strike back – and that will be a really tough game again, but that’s how it should be in the quarter-finals. We will be ready.”
