Amb. Juma and Magoha launch sweet avocado deal for Kenyan farmers

Avocado farmers in Kenya should be a happy lot after a new international market was sealed by the government.

President Uhuru Kenyatta
made a deal with Mauritius government that will see exportation of avocados and other fruits to their country.

According to Foreign Affairs CS Monica Juma, other Kenyan foods that will also access the Mauritian market include baby carrots and broccoli.

“Appreciating Kenya’s avocado that is now approved to get into the Mauritian market…” a tweet from Amb. Juma reads.

President Kenyatta arrived in Port Louis, Mauritius on Tuesday evening for a four-day State visit.

The Head of State held talks with his Mauritian counterpart Paramasivum Pillay Vyapoory at State House, Le Réduit and later Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth.

“The visit to the Republic of Mauritius offers a great opportunity to strengthen the brotherly ties that exist between the two nations,” State House Kenya said on Twitter.

President Kenyatta is expected to attend a business forum organised by the Mauritius Economic Development Board.

It’s now a wait-and-see situation on whether the move will reduce the number of Kenyans’ beloved avocados.
