Why the family of Mombasa tycoon has shown mercy to the killer

After a loss, it’s not an easy journey of recovery. It leaves a void that may never be filled and their no manual for such healing except letting nature take its course.

In realization of this, a family has taken an unusual stand that has challenged many who are grieving in relation to an injustice.

The family of the late Mombasa tycoon,Isaac Kassim, have made a rare plea to have the self confessed killer(Ngira Karisa) handed a lenient sentence.

On Monday, judge Eric Ogola took their statements into consideration and handed Mr Karisa an 8-year sentence.

Kassim’s family stated that they had come to terms with the death of their son whom Karisa confessed to having murdered in cold blood.

“The court should consider our forgiveness while pronouncing itself during the sentencing,” the family stated through their lawyer.

In addition, the slain businessman’s family affirmed that they had accepted the apologies made by the accused who they felt had shown an honest degree of regret over his actions.

Mr Karisa had pleaded guilty of murdering the Mombasa businessman on March 8, 2018, and gone on to express remorse over the act.

The accused disclosed that he had entered into the plea bargaining agreement due to a deep sense of guilt and remorse over what he confessed to having been coerced actions.

Karisa was charged alongside two other people – Eddlied Mandi Jilani, a driver at the Kilifi County Government and Makonde Buni, over the murder of Kassim Jiraw alias Sokorow on the Mombasa-Malindi Road on March 8.
