But as he was sitting with Liverpool FC TV waiting to do an interview, the reds suddenly raised a certain comcern.

Liverpool raised a concern regarding the knee injury the Frenchman was still battling hence asked Lyon to reduce the £53m fee they were supposed to receive.

However, the French outfit refused to burge and insisted they wanted the initial amount and eventually both parties failed to come to an agreement leading to the break down of the deal.

Fekir was not under any pressure to quit Lyon and therefore returned to France where he has since helped them to third in the Ligue 1 so far.

Speaking to L’Equipe, Bernes said:

‘And we will know maybe the real circumstances that prevented Fekir’s move to Liverpool. The knee was a part of it, but not only that. He had passed a medical, done photos with the Reds shirt.’

Nevertheless, he has admitted he is unsure what the future holds for the 25-year-old after failing to agree fresh terms with Lyon for his agent.

The club has told him it cannot meet their terms which are way beyond Lyon’s financial muscle.
