Maina Kamanda now leads a group of Mt Kenya political kingpins in a bid to block William Ruto bid for the high office. He has since been lobbying for a common vision in the voter-rich region through popular vernacular stations.
It’s believed that he is one of the main politicians plotting for the creation of a new Political party which will represent Mt Kenya and other allied regions like Western Kenya, Eastern, Nyanza, North Eastern and Coast region.
Maina believes he is better placed to front the policies that will ensure the dominance and interests of the Mt Kenya Region are protected. Since he has the image, experience and confidence of most decision makers.
Maragua Member of Parliament Mary Njoroge on Sunday launched a scathing attack on her nominated colleague Maina Kamanda. Njoroge cautioned Kamanda against speaking on behalf of the Central Kenya region noting that he is not an elected leader from the area.
Speaking at Mukurwe Africa Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) in Gatanga, Murang’a County, the MP termed the former Starehe legislator as an ‘outsider’ who should not assume to represent the interests of the Kikuyu community on political matters.
“When a visitor comes to your house, he is shown where to stay. A visitor does not dictate by running the affairs of the house,” said the first-time legislator in reference to Kamanda.
The remarks follow Kamanda’s tough opposition to Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid. The Jubilee Party Nominated MP has been leading the ‘Kieleweke’ group which has come out strongly to de-campaign the DP in his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kamanda, who served as the MP for Starehe Constituency in Nairobi for several decades, on Sunday said Kikuyus owe Ruto no debt and, therefore, should be left free to choose on their preferred presidential candidate.
“Who said we owe any debts to anyone? We do not owe anybody anything and come 2022 we will vote for whoever we want to,” he said on Sunday during a rally in Nyeri Town.
Leaders in Central Kenya, which is President Kenyatta’s backyard, have divided sharply over the 2022 succession debate.
The Head of State, who is the Kikuyu community political kingpin, is yet to wade into the matter which has seen political temperatures rise tremendously.
