It is around 12 noon on Sunday, Gor Mahia fans are hurrying to get to Kasarani for their most important match in recent history, but shockingly one of the fans spots Philemon Otieno, a senior player, trying to catch a motorbike to Kasarani.

Philemon was at fault for the second goal Gor Mahia conceded a few hours later. This summarizes the indiscipline in this Gor Mahia squad, the players cannot fight for the team.

Gor landed in Nairobi on 3rd evening after a successful stay in Kisumu which saw them move to the top of the KPL log for the first time this season after beating Kariobangi Sharks, Nzoia sugar and Sony Sugar.

According to details, the players were given a day off and asked to report to camp on Thursday for preparations into Sunday’s clash.

But only two players reported to camp with the others striking over unpaid allowances.

Away from the field, the fans were urging each other on social media to come and cheer the team at Kasarani.

Club Patron Raila Odinga and Sports CS Amina Mohammed led thousands of fans to the stadium to cheer the team.

Little did the fans know that the players had never met since leaving Kisumu. There were no tactics for this game, they just entered the pitch like a bunch of strangers and were whacked in front of their fans.

This was not the first time that the players staged a go slow this season. Before the group stage match against Hussein Dey, star striker Denis Oliech refused to join the team’s camp and was not in the match day squad.

There were rumors that some of the players also wanted to boycott the last group stage match against Angola’s Petro Atletico.

A certain journalist termed the current Gor Mahia team as a bunch of activists, and he is right.

Why should players only boycott CAF matches? I mean, this is a stage for them to market themselves to potential scouts.

On the field, the club was missing four key players; Captain Haron Shakava, star striker Jacques Tuyisenge, Shafik Batambuze and Ernest Wendo.

All these over discipline issues. Ernest Wendo received a straight card after a ‘stupid’ yellow card against Petro Atletico. The same goes for the first yellow card that Batambuze received, the defender just dived.

Gor coach Hassan Oktay was also not on the bench after being slapped with a suspension by CAF.

These off-field and on-field indiscipline have ultimately brought the Husband of teams back to earth.

Something has to give. Ni mashabiki wanaumia.
