Health CS appoints implicated doctor as KUTRH new boss

The Cabinet Secretary, CS for Health Sicily Kariuki has appointed Dr Andrew Toro as the acting CEO of the ultra-modern 600-bed Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital, KUTRH Monday.

KUTRH was also launched on Monday as a centre of excellence for cancer treatment, therefore reversing the trend in medical tourism where many Kenyans seek health services outside the country.

The facility will also provide a platform for training of health care workers to help the country achieve the prescribed human resources for health ratios.

KUTRH was established by the President as a State Corporation under the State Corporations Act.

The hospital has state-of-the-art facilities including 600 beds, 28 ICU beds and a neonatal intensive care unit.

Dr Toro was the former Chief Health Officer Andrew Toro at Kiambu Level Five Hospital where he was implicated together with other two doctors and a nurse of declaring a 20-day-old baby dead and issued a burial permit to the parents when he was still alive in 2018.
