The Three Tactics Arsenal MUST Use To Beat Everton In Premier League Clash Today

Maximum points would send them above Tottenham into third and open up a three-point gap between them and fifth-placed Chelsea.

Gunners boss Unai Emery admits it will be a tough ask against a side who were impressive in a 2-0 victory over West Ham last time out.

While they remain slight favourites, the Gunners will need to be at their best to take anything away from Marco Silva’s in-form side.

Here, Express Sport looks at what they need to do to clinch what would be a crucial win.

Back problems

Arsenal cruised past a blunt Newcastle side at the Emirates in their last match and their defense was barely tested in a game that witnessed a season-low 10 shots combined between the two teams.

However, Everton will prove a much sterner test having recorded consecutive Premier League wins against Chelsea and West Ham.

While the Gunners have been excellent at home this season, it is a different story on the road where they have just the 10th best record in the top-flight.

Unai Emery’s side have conceded 27 Premier League goals away from home – more than any other side in the top six – and any victory at Goodison will be built from the foundations of a solid showing in defence.

Unfortunately for Emery, he will have to make do without the injured Laurent Koscielny so it will be down to Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Skhodran Mustafi to keep the likes of Richarlison, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Bernard and Dominic Calvert-Lewin quiet.

All four were excellent against West Ham and Calvert Lewin’s runs into the channels caused the Hammers all sorts of problems.

He might get some more joy against Arsenal’s full-backs who love to bomb forward so Emery should tell Sead Kolasniac and Ainsley Maitland-Niles to be a bit more conservative.

Don’t Mes around
Emery needs to resist the urge to drop Mesut Ozil to the bench given his recent run of good form.

Ozil is often left out for the big away games and but they lack creativity without him and Emery appears to be coming around to that way of thinking.

He recently admitted Ozil is ready to play more away from home so he should keep his place.

Aaron Ramsey can also provide a spark from midfield but doubts surrounding his fitness might mean Emery has no choice but to play the German.

In truth, the pair should probably start if Emery is serious about taking all the points away from Goodison.

Keep the piece
No team has conceded more goals from set pieces than Everton in the Premier League this season.

Silva’s side have tightened up a bit of late but 14 conceded from set-piece situations reveals a definite weakness that Arsenal can exploit.

In Ozil, they have superb deliverer of corners and free-kicks and they have scored 12 themselves from those situations this term.

Emery often n encourages his side to play short corners but he needs to scrap that tactic for this afternoon’s clash.
