An Injury and suspensions ravaged Gor Mahia lost at home in the first leg of the CAF Confederations quarterfinal match staged at the Kasarani Stadium on Sunday.

The Kenya Premier League log leaders were no match for RS Berkane and the early exchanges were were enough evidence that K’Ogallo would be lucky to salvage even a draw despite being at home.

The visitors deservedly went ahead with barely half an hour played through Issoufou Dayo. The goal had been coming right from kickoff, the fact that it was as a result of a needlessly conceded freekick sparking more anxiety and panic to the fans.

Gor Mahia’s best player this season, Francis Kahata almost made a chance for the home team immediately after conceding only for Charles Momanyi to see his header come off the upright, close! The visitors however regained control of the match and went into the break leading.

Nicholas Kipkirui was introduced in the second period but could do little to stop the visitors who added a second following a swift counter attacking move. With Hassan Oktay watching onfrom the stands follwoing his toucline ban, Gor were seemingly clueless on the pitch. Thei tuation ws not aided by the absence of key players in Shafik Batambuze, Jacquese Tuyisenge and captain Harun Shakava.

In the end Gor Mahia themselves with too much to ask going into the second leg away from home. Can they recover? Let us know in the comments below….
