ODM Embakasi South poll loser Irshad  Sumra now blames the party poor organisation structure for his loss.

Furious Sumra conceded defeat before results from half of the polling stations were announced and vowed to work with the Wiper Candidate Julius Mawathe.

In May 2017, ODM aspirants claimed that the issuance of certificates was characterized by back-door deals that involved exchange of money.

The ODM national elections board was put on the spot over allegations of extortion in the issuance of nomination certificates.

The political party’s disputes tribunal was told that Embakasi South MP Irshad Sumra was part of a cartel that has been colluding with senior party officials to issue certificates to the highest bidder.

Mawathe who vied on a Wiper Party ticket was declared winner of the Embakasi South by-election with 21,628 votes,Sumra emerged a distant second with 7,988 votes.

Political pundits believes that the ODM certificates were awarded to the wrong candidates with no influence on the ground.

Party secretary general Edwin Sifuna has said that the unpreparedness costed them the seat.

Sifuna praised the party loyalists noting that though they have lost the two seats they have learnt a lesson.

Now eyes are turned to Wajir west by election where the Jubilee party has field a candidate.
