Neo Kenya Mpya Limited through a press statement announced on Friday that it will take up all financial expenses incurred by the woman who has since had her crushed foot amputated.

This is after a Kiambu woman had her foot crushed by one of its rogue drivers on Wednesday while evading traffic officers at Kahawa Sukari.

“We have a comprehensive insurance cover and as such, we have reported to our insurer – Directline Insurance to ensure that first and foremost, the financial hardship is catered to on behalf of the victim and her family,” the statement reads in parts.

It adds: “We would like to have her situation lightened as much as possible from the burden that will arise in her life even though we accept we are the cause of the tough period in her life.”

The move comes after the company came under sharp criticism by social media users following the accident and wide sharing of the bus’s numberplate (KCN 587S].

The company adds that the incident has since been reported at Kahawa Sukari Police Station and the ‘errant’ bus grounded.

The unidentified woman was rushed by well-wishers to Neema Uhai Hospital in Ruaraka, where doctors advised she be taken to Kenyatta Hospital for further treatment.

A few years ago, the entire Kenya Mpya fleet was grounded for over a week by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) due to what the government agency termed as frequent contravention of traffic rules by the company buses.

A section of Kenyans are not yet convinced though.

Your drivers and conductors are rogue. They once threw me out of your moving bus at Juja. I will never forget your heartless behaviors!!! pic.twitter.com/uSc3TpjD3F— peter kipturu (@PeterKipturu) April 4, 2019

It’s good to release a report … But this report lacks the following. 1. An Apology 2. Preventive action of future such incident …..will you be reporting them and displaying OB no. Or maybe you don’t regret actions of your drivers— steve kegoli (@skegoli) April 4, 2019

The vehicle that ran over the woman is a KCN 587S, not a KCQ 030B. This is well calculated move to Eva justice for this poor lady. We can’t allow you to get away with this pic.twitter.com/2XSXqpuZun— We The People (@WeThePeopleKE1) April 5, 2019

and yet one of your buses almost squished me in town yesterday. the problem you have is organizational culture. grounding buses doesn’t address or change that.— badger (@mmwangiJ) April 5, 2019

You buses are driven with utter disregard of other users. For example at Kimbo your buses block the road while loading passengers. Another one of your bus almost caused an accident at gwakairu as it exited the service lane with impunity ignoring other vehicles on the highway.— John Macharia (@Jonnie26) April 5, 2019
