Wolves are set to obliterate their transfer record by turning Raul Jimenez’s loan deal into a permanent one.

The Mexican striker was one of many high-profile summer incomings drafted in by Nuno Espirito Santo (with a fair bit of assistance from super agent Jorge Mendes where necessary)

Drafted in on loan form Benfica, Jimenez has been nothing short of a revelation in his debut season in the Premier League.

The Wolves No.9 has 12 goals and six assists in the 30 top-flight matches he’s had so far and has arguably been the best player in the league outside of the top six.

He also made a name for himself as a big game player, with seven goal involvements (four goals and three assists) against teams in the top six this term.

And now, without waiting until the summer, both Record and AS say that Wolves have arranged to outright sign him for €41 million euros.

“It takes time to settle in the Premier League.”

Raul Jimenez’s debut season:

– 14 goals, including 2 vs Spurs, 2 vs Chelsea and 1 vs Liverpool
– Scored more than Vardy, Lacazette, Lukaku, Firmino, Murray, Mitrovic, Wilson, Rashford & Rondon
– 6 assists
– 4 MOTM awards#WWFC pic.twitter.com/mXH6101r2w— bet365 (@bet365) March 10, 2019

Jimenez will not only become Benfica’s most expensive sale, his transfer will eclipse the club-record £18 million the Molineux club paid to land Adama Traore from Middlesbrough in the summer.

The 27-year old was excellent at Stamford Bridge as Wolves claimed another point against one of the big boys and Premier League all-time top scorer Alan Shearer heaped praise on him.

“Jimenez was magnificent for Wolves up front. He held the ball up, great centre forward play,” Shearer said on BBC Match of the Day.

“When you play like that you need a guy up front who can hold the ball up well. I thought Wolves were very, very good today.”
