Raphael Varane ready for a new challenge away from Madrid

Raphael Varane is considering his future at Real Madrid but has not yet spoken to any other club regarding his future.

That’s according to football agent Bruno Satin, who claims Varane is eager for a new challenge having won everything there is to win with Los Merengues.

Varane has won 16 trophies during his eight years at the Bernabeu, including four Champions Leagues, two La Ligas and one Copa del Rey.

However, he has not held talks with United according to Satin, who represents several French players.

“A final decision hasn’t been made yet; he [Varane] is mulling things over at the moment,” Satin told Canal+.

“He’s won everything at Madrid, and at the end of the day he’s achieved everything he needed to – which is why he feels like now is maybe time for a change.

“But I can assure [you] that he’s not in negotiations with anyone at the moment.”

United are keen to bolster their defence in the summer, with Varane and Kalidou Koulibaly viewed as ideal potential partners for Victor Lindelof.

Either player would likely cost United a world-record fee for a defender as they both have several years to run on their current contracts with their respective clubs.

Varane’s deal at Madrid runs until 2022, while Koulibaly’s at Napoli expires in 2023.

It is understood United would be willing to spend £100million on a player of Varane’s profile but their chances of landing him slimmed when Zinedine Zidane was re-appointed the Spanish club’s manager last month.

Speaking in a press conference on Tuesday, Zidane made it clear that he wants Varane to remain at the club

“I do not want a Real Madrid without Varane,” Zidane said. “He is a young player who has been here for eight years.”
