PHOTOS: Kenya Red Cross-NACADA launch the biggest rehabilitation centre in Kenya

Kenya Red Cross in partnership with NACADA have today launched a rehabilitation centre in Lamu as part of their efforts to curb drug abuse.

The NACADA Director Chipukeezy today accompanied the Chief Justice David Maraga and the Head of Red Cross Kenya Abbas Gullet, Hon Abdi Samar and DPP Noordin haji to officially open the Centre.

The centre was officially opened by Chief Justice David Maraga and is said to be the biggest in Kenya.

Maraga’s key highlight was that prevention is better than cure, and people should deal with this problem once and for all.

“I thank the Kenya Red Cross Society for this new facility and I urge them to look at other areas in this country as well, drug and Substance abuse is serious in this country, not only in the coast province but in the country ” he stated

The Level 4 facility has the capacity to hold 100 clients at a go and this will go a long way in ensuring that people can have access to the services.

The Kenya Red Cross Rehabilitation center will serve not just Lamu County but is a National Center with a regional reach.

This facility [Kenya Red Cross Rehabilitation Centre] in Lamu cost Ksh 108 million to construct.

Drugs and substance abuse is a global problem with the impact being heavily felt amongst the young and most productive population of many countries.

Lamu County Women Rep Hon. Ruweida Mohamed sponsored the first eight clients to Kenya Red Cross Rehabilitation Center .

The new Kenya Red Cross Rehabilitation Centre in Lamu will provide addiction management services including: Detoxification, Treatment, Psychosocial Support and Vocational Training among others

NACADA Director Chipukeezy said that he is indeed impressed by the project and that NACADA is committed to seeing a healthy and sober Nation for development and growth.
