Low voter turnout in Embakasi South, Mawathe’s handsman falls in hot soup after ODM’s complain

The Embakasi South by-election is underway, the atmosphere is calm but voter turnout is low.

Polls opened at 6am and are to end at 5pm.

However, one person alleged to be an ally of Wiper Candidate Francis Musili Mawathe has been arrested.

The arrest came after a complain from ODM on voter bribery.

He was nabbed for allegedly engaging in voter bribery. the person was arrested in Kware, Pipeline.

The seat fell vacant after the High court nullified Mawathe’s victory last year.

Speaking to a local daily soon after casting his vote, Mawathe said some voters have been denied some time off from work to vote.

He also said some women had been threatened by a group of three youths, telling them not to vote.

The youths  are said to be standing at the entrances of  polling stations, telling women to go back home and cook.

Asked if he will accept the results if he doesn’t win, Mawathe said he would but added he is sure he will not lose.

He said he has built roads, added hospital beds, put up a wall at  Villa police post and around Kwa Njenga primary and given students bursaries in the one year he has been working for the area.
