EACC gets hold of land ministry staff who demand bribe for their services

Two officials at the county lands registry offices are in hot soup after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) discovered that they have been making citizens pay bribes of Sh1000 and more for them to do their job.

The clerk and security guard were taken in by EACC for colluding to collect money from every individual who needed the land ownership document.

The two were taken to Homa Bay Police Station after EACC had to disguise themselves and caught them in the act. It is reported that the guard would collect the bribes and take them to the clerk, who would then give him his share.

EACC Deputy Manager in charge of South Nyanza region Arthur Opili said the two would be taken to court.

“I am assuring residents that we will be swift in taking legal action against graft perpetrators,” Opili affirmed.
