You will be unable to purchase electricity tokens in banking halls in three days’ time, Kenya Power has revealed.
Buying your token via prepaid pay bill number 888880 and or other prepaid vending channels will not work as the company will be migrating data to a new hardware system.
The exercise is expected to affect operations between Tuesday, April 9 and Wednesday April, 10.
Specific times are from Tuesday 11pm to Wednesday 6pm.
Kenya Power has urged its customers to buy electricity tokens in advance to avoid any inconveniences.
On January 23 this year, there was hue and cry after thousands of homes were plunged into darkness following an outage of the token purchase system.
The disruption continued the next day forcing Kenya Power to release a statement that cited a hitch in the system.
“Our system is currently experiencing a delay in token generation. We request your patience as we send your tokens. Apologies for the inconvenience,” the company said.
In October and November last year, Kenya Power shut down their systems to facilitate the implementation of new electricity tariffs.
A week before the shutdown, customers had experienced challenges accessing the prepaid services.
