There is a growing anxiety at the Kenya Revenue Authority as the tenure of the commissioner general John Njoroge come to an end.
Kenyans and KRA fraternity are worried whether president Uhuru Kenyatta will replace Njiraini with his fellow Kikuyu countrymen as it has been the norm.
John Gachora, the group’s managing director of NIC is being fronted to replace Njiraini.
Those holding this view argue that the KRA board will advertise the Commissioner General’s position once the President reshuffles his Cabinet. .
With less than two months before Njiraini’s tenure comes to an end, the Francis Muthaura-led Board is yet to advertise his position to invite applicants in accordance with the Constitution.
The KRA Commissioner-General is appointed by the National Treasury Cabinet Secretary upon the recommendation of the Board.
With reports that Njiraini may land the National Treasury Cabinet Secretary’s slot, there are fears he will appoint his successor at KRA.
Njiraini’s departure will end a seven-year stint at the Times Tower corner office. He was appointed to the helm of KRA in 2012 by President Uhuru Kenyatta, the then Minister of Finance.
Last year, KRA began reorganizing its team of senior managers under the watch of Muthaura, the former head of Public Service.
