The bizarre reason why Coutinho has been struggling at Barcelona

Local residents have suggested Philippe Coutinho’s struggles in Catalonia may be down to where he lives.

The Brazilian has struggled for form since moving to Barcelona from Liverpool in January 2018.

His inconsistent displays have seemingly failed to win over Ernesto Valverde and reports suggest Barca may look to cash in this summer.

Upon Coutinho moving from Liverpool, his former teammate at Anfield Luis Suarez helped him find somewhere to live.

The stunning mansion is in Bellamar, which remains one of the most popular areas for footballers and overlooks the town of Castelldefels.

ESPN reports some local residents think there is something of a ‘jinx’ hanging over the Brazilian.G

Coutinho’s house was robbed within a month of his arrival but since then his struggles have often just been on the pitch.

But there are fears among locals in the area that there is real property with residents of the mansion.

Former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas initially bought it in 2014 but was sold by Barcelona weeks later.

Thomas Vermaelen, who was Fabregas’ teammate in north London, moved in after joining Barca but he has endured a nightmare spell in the Nou Camp.

He was looking for an inhabitant when he joined Roma on loan in 2016 and midfielder Andre Gomes stepped in.

The Portuguese midfielder arrived from Valencia but failed to make the grade and is now on loan at Everton.

Then there is Coutinho, who has failed to replicate the form that persuaded Barca to fork out £140m for his services.

Will a change of scenery bring the best out of Coutinho? Or will he have to seek a more dramatic change when the transfer window opens.
