The Red Devils host the Catalan club in the first leg of their quarter-final on Wednesday.

And Pereira has told Barca that Manchester United will rise to the occasion.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side caused a shock in the last round overturning a first leg defeat to dump Paris Saint-Germain out of the competition.

Marcus Rashford netted an injury-time penalty to seal a place in the last eight.

And Pereira thinks his United team-mates are up for the challenge of beating Lionel Messi and co.

“Against the big clubs, we rise to the occasion,” Pereira told MUTV.

“We show our character. We show the real Man United spirit and I think, after what we did against PSG, other teams will be more ready for that, so they will respect us even more.”

Pereira’s team-mate Scott McTominay has called for United to face Barcelona with confidence.

Man Utd midfielder Scott McTominay says his team-mates are ready for the challenge of Barcelona

“The boys are so professional,” he explained.

“It doesn’t matter when you play. It could be a month from now and everyone would still be raring to go and at it.

“I feel like we’ve got a good group of boys here and everybody wants to work for each other.

“Anything can happen and that’s football.

Man Utd will have to keep Lionel Messi quiet if they are to beat Barcelona

“There’s so much to be positive about with a big Champions League [night] coming up and it’s one of them that we need to relish now.

“We need to smile now when we go on the pitch and we need to play with confidence.”

United take on Barcelona next Wednesday in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final at Old Trafford (8pm).
