For Unai Emery, the focus is resolutely on the here and now, the next match against Wolves and the lure of Champions League qualification on the horizon.

But for the Arsenal hierarchy plans are already being made for a summer transfer window in which momentum must be built on and a great deal will need doing without a huge amount to spend.

And among those targets who are of particular interest to Arsenal is Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser.

The Emirates hierarchy has long been admirers of Fraser and Daily Active understands that he is emerging as one of their top targets as they search for a winger in the summer transfer window.

He is not the only player of interest, Leandro Trossard of Genk and Boca Juniors’ Cristian Pavon also among the potential additions, and Arsenal’s transfer plans are likely to remain in flux until it becomes clear whether or not they will have Champions League revenue to add to their budget.

Were Danny Welbeck to extend his contract that could also change Arsenal’s summer priorities, which include a box-to-box winger and left-back, but at the time of writing, he is more likely to leave than stay. Contrary to reports elsewhere Unai Emery did not indicate that he planned to offer the injured forward a new contract last week, saying only that that would be a decision for player and club.

As yet there has been no offer from Arsenal to Bournemouth for the winger and Fraser has offered no indication that he would want to leave. However a step up to a top Premier League side would not faze the 25-year-old, who has averaged a goal or assist every other game in an outstanding season for the Cherries.

Fraser’s contract at Bournemouth expires in 2020 and it is unlikely that any talks over an extension will take place before the end of the season.

The Gunners are likely to head into the summer window with a relatively limited budget, as little as £40million if they fail to qualify for the Champions League, and as such a player with extensive Premier League experience available at a reasonable fee is a tempting option.

Though Fraser might be available for less than would be expected Arsenal would be getting a seriously impressive player. Fraser ranks second in the Premier League for assists, with only Eden Hazard having created more than the 10 goals the Scotland international has provided.

Indeed in total Fraser has created 21 big chances for team-mates this season, more than anyone else in the English top flight. Second on that list is Lucas Digne with 13. The highest-ranked Arsenal player – Sead Kolasinac – has 10.

Of course Arsenal have never been short of players who enjoy creating chances for others – step forward Messrs Ozil and Iwobi – but what Fraser can offer that neither of those two can is searing pace. Against Leicester on Saturday the top speed he hit was 33.39 km/h, only Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang went quicker than that for the Gunners against Newcastle on Monday night.

Working under the tutelage of Eddie Howe Fraser has improved dramatically in almost every season since he was signed from Aberdeen in 2013. Often decried as inconsistent and streaky he has matured into a more well-rounded offensive weapon this season just as Wilfried Zaha did last.

“He has always been a player of real creativity and the ability to play a very good final pass – it is a real strength,” said Howe last week.

“You can have players who look brilliant and have great games but when you analyse their game afterwards you say ‘what did you do, where is the product?’
