Supporters of the Sambuu Governor Moses Lenolkulal are now claiming that the case against the governor is purely political.
This has forced them to stage a demonstration in Maralal calling for immediate release of the troubled politician who is facing four counts of corruption and abuse of office.
The residents who poured in the streets of Maralal town on Wednesday, April 3, lambasted court’s decision to slap the governor with KSh 100 million cash bail and a bond of KSh 150 million.
They claimed Lenolkulal’s case was purely political witch hunt informed by malice arguing that the county boss was a respectable elected leader. While appearing before Nairobi Anti-Corruption Court’s Justice Douglas Ogoti on Tuesday, April 3, the county boss denied all the charges pressed against him.
These included conspiracy to commit an offense of corruption, abuse of office, conflict of interest and unlawful acquisition of public property against the Penal Code. He, however, rushed to the High Court to review bail terms on the ground he was not in a position to raise the required amount. Judge Mumbi Ngugi has since reduced the bail to KSh 10 million.
