Veteran news anchor Jeff Koinange has shocked many after he revealed that he does not have any regrets that his father passed away while he was still very young .
Speaking in an interview with Yvonne Aoll of the Unwritten, Koinange said it is good his father died.
Jeff Koinange’s father Fredrick Mbiyu Koinange died back in the year 1966 when the news anchor was only 2 years old.
When Jeff was asked to share out how it felt to grow up without a father and what he missed, he firmly replied, nothing, leaving the interviewer shocked by the short response.
“Nothing. I don’t regret anything. I’m glad he wasn’t there in a way,” said Jeff.
The famous Citizen TV news anchor went further to state that he is fine his father died when he was only 2 years because the impact was less felt.
He adds that might his father have been there while growing up, he and his siblings probably could have ended up becoming spoiled kids considering Koinange was one of the richest figures in the country during those days.
“Because if he had died much later when we were growing up, that would have been very sad.
Also because if he was around, we might have ended up as some really spoilt brats as kids, and I’m glad we didn’t end up that way. So, you know, it’s not my calling, but, I think it’s a good thing he went.” Koinange says as quoted by the Unwritten.
Jeff also adds that when his time comes to part ways with his only son Jamal Koinange by death, he wants his son to choose what is best for him.
The former CNN correspondent asserts that he doesn’t want his son forced to take the footsteps of his father but be left to choose his own path in life independently.
Jeff also passed a heartfelt message that he would like his son to always remember.
“Don’t step into anybody’s footsteps, don’t try and be like daddy in any way, no pressure to do what your dad did, do what you want to do. Carve your own path,” he concluded.
