Man in Migori killed by flash floods while herding

While innocently looking after his cattle, a 35-year-old man in Migori County ended up being swept away by flash floods.

Locals said that efforts to save him were futile as the floods were heavy and fast.

Migori police commander Joseph Nthenge said the victim was herding along a river bank, hence worsening the situation.

The family on the other hand declined to let police take the body, saying that their culture demands that anybody who dies after such circumstance should be buried immediately at midnight to ward off bad omen.

Meanwhile the county police boss has appealed to locals living near water sources to be extra cautious and if possible move away from river banks and other areas susceptible to flooding as rains pound the region.
