Somali woman fined sh 5 m for unlawful residence & passport fraud

They say East West home is the best.This kind of joy and peace is however not privilege to many due to many inconveniences that affect a number of individuals and sometimes one’s tainted record in a country.

A Somalia national was on Friday fined Sh5 million by a court for being in the country illegally. Abdi Muna Hussein had been charged with unlawful residence and possessing a forged passport.

Chief Magistrate Edna Nyaloti heard that Muna was arrested on March 15 at the Moi International Airport as she attempted to fly to Belgium using a fake Czech passport.

Further, the court was informed that on the same day and place, with an intention to travel to Belgium, she presented a forged Czech passport to an Immigration officer purporting that the same was issued to her by the Czech government authorities a fact she knew was false.

Muna, who pleaded guilty, will serve 38 months in jail if she cannot pay the fine.

The accused person pleaded with the court to be lenient to her while giving its verdict saying that she is a first offender.
