Manchester United Prepares a Job For Juan Mata After His Retirement

Juan Mata only has a few months left on his current contract

Juan Mata has been a great servant for Manchester United.

The Spanish midfielder joined in 2013 in a £37.1 million deal and he’s gone to have great success.

He’s so far scored 44 goals and made 215 appearances during his six season stint.

Mata has also helped the club to four major honours, including the FA Cup in 2016 and the Europa League in 2017.

However, he may not be at the club much longer.

Mata is now 30 years old and is no longer a regular in the first team.

And, with his playing time dwindling, he only has a couple of months left on his contract.

He’s been linked with a whole host of clubs, including Barcelona.

But, even if he does leave the club, United have future plans in place for him.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United want Mata to become a club ambassador after he retires from professional football.

United’s desire to make Mata an ambassador stems from the charitable work that he has undertaken alongside his United career.

Mata’s Common Goal initiative, founded in August 2017, encourages footballers to donate 1% of their salaries to not-for-profit organisations targeting social change and integration

He has already helped raise £1.14 million, with over 80 players and managers already pledging money.

If he chooses to accept, he will become an ambassador alongside the likes of Alex Ferguson, Bobby Charlton, Peter Schmeichel and Park Ji Sung.

That would be a decent move for Man United if Mata chooses to accept.

The report adds that United have no desire to let Mata leave in the summer.

The two parties are locked in contract negotiations, but the length of the deal is proving to be an issue.

United are only offering a one year contract while Mata is holding out for a two year deal.

Nevertheless, the Spanish midfielder’s preference is to stay with United and he is understood to be ‘calm’ about his position at the club.
