Renowned Kenyan music producer and widower Tedd Josiah has been designing leather bags along side his co-CEO daughter, Jay. He has been raising Jay with the help of a nanny during the day and leaves in the evening since his wife, Katar passed on.
Through a post he shared on his Instagram account, he explained why he shifted to bags’ business. He wrote; “Why bags? Just before little Jay was conceived we (Regina Katar) and myself had started our little fashion house. Intact in this photo she was expecting, so we had to put everything on hold because of a fragile pregnancy 🤰 until Jay was born and three months old.
So at the 3-month mark, we re-designed her logo and she announced her return to work. 2 days after she announced her return she sadly very abruptly passed away from a sudden illness. WHY BAGS? We had planned to start this from a dream we had. Bags pack our dreams, our luggage, our past, our future. Bags are where we keep our treasures when we are going somewhere or leaving somewhere.
We bag up our emotions. We bag up for a journey. JayJay’s journey and mine have been Extremely painful and some days I’ve felt like giving up curling up and dying! From depression, stress, life’s pressure and raising an infant alone. Jokajok leather Was started for me to focus on something in memory of an extremely powerful soul who changed me.
To channel my creative energy to make nice stuff that will live long and bring people joy. And also to provide my child with the things she needs on a daily basis and food on the table. But also to make the team that works for us to earn an honest living. No matter where you are in life, God can turn your sorrows into joy. What’s in your bag should symbolise who you are, where you are from and where ur going to.”
Tedd lost his wife three months after they were blessed with a bouncing baby girl. He is a good example of parenting fathers since its evident from his posts that he raises Jay perfectly.
