How is Ghettuba’s new role in Netflix a plus to Kenya’s Entertainment Industry?

Kenyans are excited over the new global title for Kenyan woman in the international company, Netflix.

The popular video streaming service Netflix has hired a producer of a popular Kenyan TV series to commission more African content.

Dorothy Ghettuba will join Netflix in June with the title of Manager, International Originals for Europe, Middle East, and Africa. She will be based in the Dutch city of Amsterdam.

Ghettuba is the CEO of Spielworks Media, an 11-year-old Kenyan production company behind a range of TV formats.

Her shows have aired on Kenyan TV stations as well as on continental channels like Africa Magic.

“We are excited to confirm that Dorothy is joining the International Originals group, which produces original series across the world, such as Dark, The Protector and Baby,” a spokesman told the BBC in a statement.

What will Kenya gain after she assumes office?

There is a lot of untold stories in the film industry in Kenya with vast talent but with poor lead.

Her role will help Kenyans to be competitve in order to get their content into Netflix which is streamed by million people in over 190 countries.

But are Kenyans ready for the task?

Netflix is now on the row of embracing African content as first seen in Nigeria and South Africas.
