Police reveal areas under threat of retaliatory Al Shabaab attack after murder of key commander

Residents of Mandera, Wajir and Garissa have been warned against possible retaliation by the Al-Shabaab militants, who have been a constant threat in North Eastern, following the recent killing of a Kenyan-bred Al Shabaab commander cum propagandist Ahmed Iman.

According to an intelligence report published by the standard media after the execution of  three Kenyans in Somalia, police suspect that the Islamist militants might strike any time in revenge mission. The three executed are believed to have been spying for the Kenyan government.

“There might be a possible reretaliatory attack. Al Shabaab militants believe the attack on their high command must have had an insider’s work as it hit the building where their leaders were meeting and planning future targets,” the intelligence report reads in part.

Other parts of the country that police have called for  vigilance include the Coastal towns of Mombasa, Malindi and Lamu.

This follows an incident  where wanted Alshabaab suspects escaped police dragnet in their hideouthideouts on Thursday.

Just a week ago, at least five Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) were killed as they headed to Elwak town after their military base was closed down.
